Well, if was going to get caught on camera getting man-handled by a publicist/assistant/whoever’s death grip that is, I can only hope that I would look as graceful and summery as Piper Perabo in this pussybow dress!
That red coral color just continues to make me weak in the knees season after season. Add to that a light sleeve and a pussybow and you have one hot little secretary dress. What really makes it rockstar are those fierce gold platform pumps. Muted make-up and the lack of jewelry make it great for daytime, yet we could take this look into evening in a snap!
All you need for a dress like this is one stunner of a gold cocktail ring. Brushed, hammered, or matte gold would be perfect as long as it’s not burnt since we want it to really pop! And don’t forget about a little bling. It’s the nightlife after all!

Red Carpet: Emmy Rossum in Zuhair Murad
MAY 20, 2013
I love Emmy Rossum in this Zuhair Murad dress, and check out the face she’s giving! She loves it too! Head-to-toe everything about this is beautiful and classic. The cut is flattering and the sex appeal is undeniable but not over stated.
Bejeweled double-drop earrings are the perfect compliment to any sleek dress and I can’t gush about the statement ring enough. All around, it’s a very gorgeous outing for Emmy!

Spring Fashion Trends: Bold Lips Meet Bold Gems
MAY 17, 2013
Who hasn’t seen this trend and stared longingly? The bold lip is such a classic fashion staple but also remains somewhat elusive. I’ve heard so many stories about failed attempts at achieving this look, and complaints that certain colors just “don’t look right” with this skin tone or that hair.
I’m here to proclaim: every wasted tubes of lipstick is worth it! The result is so fearless and pretty at the same time. Plus, I always encourage girls to buy their makeup from places like Mac who have color-trained specialists and give makeovers to sample their colors. The products aren’t cheap but the value of the perfect summer shade, and the saved time and frustration is well worth it!
Now, once you’ve got that red, plum, bronze, or pretty pink lip you shouldn’t stop there! Statement jewelry paired with bright makeup remains fresh and right on trend! I especially love a bold mouth worn with pretty rings which is a bit unexpected at first. We think of these body parts as so far away from each other, but consider how often we touch our faces during the day. Now, imagine a candy colored smile gently grazed by a hand sporting an art deco hinged ring!
Adorable, isn’t it?

Blogger Love: Jennifer of Just Add Glam!
MAY 16, 2013
Jennifer of Just Add Glam looks so comfy and cool in this flirty spring ensemble! I love how this outfit brilliantly combines the floral skirts we’ve all been stockpiling for the spring, and the cute but casual sweaters left over from fall. Then, the real fun comes in when you combine these pieces with punchy accessories like bold heels, shades, or a stud bracelet. Jennifer has done all of the above beautifully!

Runway Chic: Zoe Saldana in Rodarte
MAY 15, 2013
Zoe Saldana attended the Star Trek: Into Darkness premiere in an edgy, asymmetrical dress from the Rodarte Fall 2013 Collection. Despite what their stylists say, celebrities can't always pull off runway looks, but Zoe definitely has the figure for it and her skin looks fabulous against this beige.
It’s the styling I just can’t get behind completely. The red lip looks a bit salacious against all this sheer fabric, and the cut of this dress with these heels makes Zoe look like a flamenco dancer! The pops of bold red actually compete with the dress instead of contributing to her overall look.
If I were rocking this ensemble I’d wear my hair down with barely-there makeup to embrace the “nude” minimalism this piece embodies. The cuff bracelet worn high looks cute. Let’s keep that!

Blogger Love: Kimberly of Penny Pincher Fashion
MAY 14, 2013
Who can argue with this perfect springtime look from Kimberly of Penny Pincher Fashion? Again, hard-meets-soft might be my favorite theme for this season. Pairing tough girl aviator shades with florals? Beautiful! Using an INPINK chain bracelet to add spunk to a feminine color palette? Inspired! This outfit proves that if you’re thoughtful about coordinating, you can definitely look great on a budget!

Sidewalk Chic: Kerry Washington in Prabal Gurung
MAY 13, 2013
Some television show characters are known for being impeccably fashionable and I can’t help but apply that same standard to the actors playing them. Is that fair? Usually not, because only in rare cases does the celebrity actually live up to the high bar (Sarah Jessica Parker).
If you watch Scandal you’ll know lead character Olivia Pope always looks perfect: trendy and chic, without a hair out of place. Kerry Washington doesn’t quite hit that mark here. This bag is too large and distracting. Her white accessories compete with an already complicated dress. Also, I appreciate the minimalism, but with her hair pulled back, these large stud earrings look a bit old-fashioned.
Again, this is by her on-screen persona’s high standards. Outside of that, I love the flattering cut on this Prabal Gurung piece from the Fall 2013 collection, and her makeup. Not impeccable, but very pretty indeed.

Spring Fashion Trends: Black and White and Gold
MAY 10, 2013
Let’s put a spin on the black and white trend popular this spring!
Try adding accessories that feature gold-tone metals to incorporate a subtle layer of complexity that the eye doesn’t expect. This can also make your look incredibly modern! Rock a wrap bracelet with gold studs if you’re wearing pieces that feature geometric patterns or a punk rock edge. Or try capping a flirty black and white dress with an all black polish to add an extra touch of mystery!
Trends can provide excellent inspiration but don’t follow them as fashion religion! Use them as a base to branch out. The easiest way to experiment is with your accessories first!

Red Carpet: Best Dressed, Met Gala '13
MAY 8, 2013
The Met Gala red carpet was the place to be seen on Monday night and there was certainly a lot to look at! Naturally, the attendants enthusiastically embraced this year’s theme: "Punk: Chaos to Couture!” Celebrities love the opportunity to outdo each other and it was actually fun to see a few break out of their comfort zones (Kerry Washington)!
In the spirit of that, I will avoid panning some of the less successful attempts at “punk rock,” “couture,” or “clothing.”
Let’s take a peek at who did it right!
Rooney Mara killed it in a white Givenchy gown and was my favorite for the evening! She has absolutely mastered this aesthetic and it shows by how effortless this look feels. I also appreciate how she blended “edgy” with “chic” in a way that's perfectly becoming for an event at the Met.
Cameron Diaz looked positively regal in a stunning Stella McCartney gown. This ensemble is rather minimalistic compared to others on the red carpet but that’s where it has its edge! No one can deny how quietly rebellious this silhouette is and with Cameron’s sleekly brushed back locks, the styling was a perfect match!
Sarah Jessica Parker seems to be the unofficial winner of “Best Dressed” if social media is any indication and it’s well deserved. The print on her Giles Deacon dress was bold and edgy without being garish (Kim Kardashian). The shoes were daring and the headdress added a perfect avant garde touch!
If the Met Gala inspired you to shake up your usual style try adding a jeweled wrap bracelet or spiked ring to any outfit for a punk rock touch.

Sidewalk Chic: Katy Perry in Givenchy
MAY 7, 2013
Oh, Katy! What happened here? Young pop stars are under so much pressure to constantly push the fashion envelope and this is the result. When style becomes an exercise in compulsory risk taking you don’t control it: it controls you (and by the look on Katy’s face she’s not enjoying it)!
The most garish piece in this outfit is certainly this busy Givenchy tunic which does not translate well off the runway. Topping that with studded boots creates even more confusion in a look desperately seeking simplicity. I’ll also note sadly that even Jimmy Choo can look cheap when worn incorrectly! In fact, all the accessorizing here is so clumsy, I can barely recommend jewelry to help save it. This look needs less, not more!
I will say that I’m digging this spunky nail polish hue. It’s not much, but it’s one thing.
