Bio
Rising indie artist Tamari Johnson will debut her new single, “23,” on November 20, 2024. The song captures the emotional complexity of navigating early adulthood, confronting setbacks, and wrestling with self-doubt—all while holding onto the hope that things will turn around. With its heartfelt lyrics and soulful melody, “23” is both an anthem for those feeling lost and a rallying cry to persevere.
“23” is deeply personal for Tamari, who, like many young adults, has faced challenges in her pursuit of big dreams. Growing up in a musically inclined family in California, Tamari was inspired from a young age by her mother, a local dance performer, and her grandfather, a bandleader. By the age of 4, Tamari was already captivated by the idea of performing, imagining a future as a global superstar. Throughout her youth, she performed at family gatherings, joined a local dance group, and began writing songs in her free time.
In high school, she shifted her focus to music production, learning to produce and engineer her own work and collaborating with others. Now based in the Bay Area, Tamari’s artistry reflects her journey, balancing vulnerability with a resilient message of hope.
“I wrote ‘23’ during a time when I was questioning if I’d ever achieve the dreams I had as a kid,” said Tamari. “I wanted to capture that feeling of being on the edge of giving up but choosing to keep going. ‘23’ is for anyone who’s been there and needs a reminder that setbacks don’t define us—it’s our resilience that does.”
